Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Java Full Stack Developer for a long-term contract opportunity based in Austin, TX (hybrid work environment). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in enterprise-level full stack development and preferably prior experience working with Texas state government agencies.

Role Overview:

You’ll be working on a high-impact team responsible for upgrading and modernizing web applications for a major government department. The position involves hands-on coding, technical guidance, and collaboration throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This is a great opportunity for a developer with deep technical knowledge and a desire to contribute to projects that serve the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead or support full stack application development using Java and related technologies.
  • Participate in all phases of SDLC including design, development, testing, deployment, and code reviews.
  • Perform detailed code analysis and generate reports outlining best practice adherence and areas of improvement.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with junior developers on the team.
  • Ensure application accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0, 508 compliance) are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of full stack web application development experience
  • 7+ years with HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • 5+ years with Struts 1.2, IBM WebSphere 8.5, SQL Server or Oracle
  • Experience with Java 1.7, MyBatis, JUnit, Subversion, Git/Bitbucket
  • Familiarity with enterprise security, code analysis, and documentation standards
  • Agile experience (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with public sector or state government projects
  • Proficiency in Eclipse IDE, Confluence, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Background in enterprise-grade software solutions

Location: Hybrid in Austin, TX

This is a 12+ month contract with strong potential for extension.
