Position Overview: The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations by assisting with various tasks and ensuring the smooth functioning of experiments and research activities. This position involves a combination of hands-on laboratory work, data management, and collaboration with the research team. This position starts as a part-time contract role but can evolve into a full-time position.

Responsibilities 

• Collaborate with team members to achieve research objectives. 
• Prepare and set up laboratory equipment and instruments for experiments. 
• Keep the laboratory workspace clean and organized. 
• Perform daily support tasks, such as making samples, cutting swatches and shipping samples. 
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results. 
• Assist in the ordering and restocking of laboratory supplies. 
• Assist in the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment. 
• Perform tasks around the facility including washing labware, disposing of laboratory waste in accordance with established procedures, and cleaning as needed. 
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and laboratory regulations. 
• Design, carry out, and document research experiments 
• Assist team in applying for certifications and grants 
• Perform technical testing of material to ensure product performance 
• Evaluate and analyze competitive products and report results 
• Support team with manufacturing and production scale-up activities 
• Manage time independently, ensure proper documentation in laboratory notebook, and comply with all safety and quality standards 

Required Skills/Abilities and Physical Requirements:   

• Must be very responsible and reliable.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy. 
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. 
• Good organizational and multitasking skills. 
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills. 
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity for handling laboratory equipment.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Education and Experience:  

• Associate's degree or above in a related field is required. 
• Previous laboratory experience or coursework is desirable. 
• ​Although not required, basic mechanical skills would be a bonus.

Terms of Employment:  Part-time or contract, with the possibility of expanding to full-time

Compensation: $20-25 / hour
